Harrison Hydra-Gen’s hPower Is Awarded a Firehouse Innovation Award

We’re Honored to Be Named a Firehouse Innovation Award Winner for hPower

We are thrilled to announce that Harrison Hydra-Gen’s hPower system has been selected as a winner in the 2025 Firehouse Innovation Awards, a recognition given to products and services that push the boundaries of technology in the fire service world.

The award is a testament to the hard work of our engineering team, the vision of our leadership, and, most importantly, the trust our department partners have placed in us.

What Is the Firehouse Innovation Award?

The Firehouse Innovation Awards celebrate products and services that significantly advance fire service technology. Winners are featured in Firehouse Magazine and receive recognition across the industry as best-in-class.

Earning this award isn’t just a plaque, it validates that hPower is making a tangible difference in real-world fire and EMS fleets.

Why hPower Stands Out

When designing hPower, we set out to address a core challenge: how to power vital systems on emergency vehicles without relying on engine idling. The Firehouse evaluation hit on exactly what we aimed for:

  • Reduced Idling / Fuel Savings
In several departments, idle times have dropped by more than 50%. The projected fuel savings range from $17,000 to $30,000 per vehicle annually.

  • Less Wear, More Uptime
Because the engine doesn’t need to run constantly, departments are seeing fewer oil changes, less engine stress, and longer vehicle service life.

  • Smart Automation & Monitoring
The system includes real-time diagnostics, alerts, and remote access through phone/computer, so potential issues are identified before they become problems.
We also built in customizable control logic, e.g. starting/stopping based on ambient temperature or battery level, so the system is essentially “set it and forget it.”

  • Dependable Performance
From powering lights, climate control, to equipment, hPower ensures that response vehicles are ready to go, even when the engine is off. As Firehouse put it:

“hPower provides an efficient and dependable solution … It runs all essential systems while the engine is off … With smart automation and real-time monitoring … it’s a practical upgrade …” Firehouse

Real-World Impact & Feedback

Since deployment in multiple departments, we’ve seen:

  • Significant fuel cost reductions

  • Decreases in maintenance costs

  • Positive feedback from engineers, responders, and fleet managers on system reliability

A mid-size department told us that before adding hPower, their maintenance team was servicing units twice a month. Today, they’ve cut that in half.

What’s Next

Winning this award energizes us to push further:

  • We plan to expand deployment across more fire & EMS agencies

  • Develop next-gen versions with enhanced energy storage, faster charging, and more intelligent control

  • Leverage the Firehouse visibility to connect with procurement decision-makers and departments across the country

If your department is interested in reducing fuel costs, improving vehicle uptime, or learning more about battery-hybrid emergency systems, reach out! We’d be honored to work alongside you.

We want to extend sincere thanks to:

  • Our dedicated engineering, product, and operations teams

  • The early adopter departments who trusted us

  • Firehouse Magazine and the selection committee for this recognition
